We love animals and we have four dogs, a horse and a potbelly pig. Your pet is welcome here in Le Village Catalan in the South of France, and you will be glad you brought your pet when you discover great nature walks, the refreshing streams and rock pools, the pure mountain air, and the happiness of the animal sensing the call of the wild...
Well, the pictures on this page should give you an idea of what to expect. Self-catering is ideal for pet owners, the mountains are cooler than the coastal areas, and there is plenty of space. All our houses are on two levels, and bedrooms downstairs stay cool even in the hot season. When you book a holiday property to include your pet, we provide: A welcome snack, a food bowl and water bowl, bags to collect and properly dispose of the droppings, and information on suitable walks with water and shade.
Travel tips & health hazards:
You will experience that pets are welcome many places in France, which would be out of bounds in other countries, even in many restaurants! And in most places it is perfectly acceptable to ask for a doggy-bag. If you travel by car it is worth noting that French motorways are well equipped with large, clean, green rest areas with access to drinking water, ideal for you and your pet to get a break and a walk on long journeys. Please have in mind that you should not leave a pet in a car in the summer heat, other than very short stops with an open window. Do not walk a dog in the forests of Southern Europe between dusk and dawn, there is a risk of Leishmaniasis infection, caused by some types of sand flies. Consult your vet about current health regulations and ensure your pet's travel documents are valid before travelling abroad.
The Village Catalan Pet Policy
The Pet Policy is aimed at making the stay pleasant for your pet as well as for other guests. (this general policy refers to dogs, please contact us in case of other types of domestic animals).
1. We welcome pet owners as well as non-pet guests, and for practical reasons we limit the number of animals in the Village. Therefore please check the availability situation with us before you book.
2. Dogs are permitted in certain houses only, primarily those with entrance towards the back of the village (easy access to walks). Please use a paper or plastic bag to collect and dispose of the droppings (bags and plastic spoons are available free of charge at the reception, waste containers are located below the village).
3. Pets must not be left unattended in the house, other than for very short periods; they must be kept under supervision when outside. Not all guest may appreciate other people's pets, so the communal garden and pool area are off-limits areas. Pet-sitting is available subject to booking.
4. The pet charge is currently 30 Euros (£20) per week. You must be able to show a valid health certificate and rabies vaccination.
5. If needed, the nearest veterinary clinic is in Prades (15 minutes drive), Rue Pompeu Fabra, telephone 0468965373.
For every pet-booking in Village Catalan we make a donation to the Brigitte Bardot Foundation and French animal protection organisation S.P.A. for their kennels for abandoned animals. And if you want to adopt one, we will be glad to offer advice.
